The Journey of a Movement can be marked by specific steps.

1. The Core Concept

A charismatic leader or figureheads propose a new and transcendent idea offering a cure for disconnected individuals.

And so it goes. Preparations are underway to challenge the establishment overseas. Pressure is mounting. Smoke is rising from within. One individual, exposed, shivering, the words HIGH RELEASE POINT written on his body as a statement, has emerged through the lines and is removed under a blanket towards an inconclusive loan stint in county cricket.

Do you recall the beginning, when the world was still young? The era of early Bazball, of pure instinct.

2. Love-Bombing

Cult leaders promise a new start, a brighter tomorrow, love, success within a community with shared faith in the philosophy.

It’s the opener continuing to have permission addressing the media, appearing as a happy little woodland creature in a waistcoat, saying stuff like we’re challenging norms. Certainly, the atmosphere, for a significant period, was entirely positive.

3. The Growth Phase

Building period. Togetherness strengthened via memorization of key phrases. These principles may seem irrational as a loyalty check.

Am I alone? The criticism, the outrage, the sense of betrayal after the first Ashes Test defeat seems too strong, overdone. The batting collapsed on the field, as they often do in Australia. This is the core issue. It’s all cults. Bazball was a cult as the game has its own culture.
