It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
